Sehoy Thrower Talk- Traditional Uses of Native Plants by Poarch Creek TribeJoin
Join the Mobile Medical Museum, USA Native American Studies, and the Mobile Co Master Gardeners as they host Sehoy Thrower.
Sehoy Thrower currently works as the Environmental Protection Specialist for the Poarch Band of Creek Indians. She grew up learning some traditional plant uses from her Creek family, and eventually went on to study ecology in school. Along with protecting the Tribe’s natural resources, her job involves teaching traditional ecological knowledge from a cultural and scientific perspective to the youth. She is happy to share land-use history of the Poarch Creek Indians and how that shaped their culture and knowledge of medicinal plant uses to this day. This talk can cover the ethnobotanical history of the Tribe and specific practices that were maintained through modern times. The talk can also address the future of revitalizing plant knowledge at the Tribe.
